We keep SaveReels working as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and other platforms change. Here's what we've shipped recently: new tools, fixes, and speed improvements.

Threads videos and photos, now downloadable
The new Threads video downloader saves public Threads posts — video or photo — as a direct file, in the app and on the web. Paste a post link and download in one click, no login required.

Vimeo videos, now downloadable
The new Vimeo video downloader saves public Vimeo videos as MP4, in the app and on the web. Vimeo works differently from everything else here: most uploads have no single ready-made file to hand you, only separate video and audio streams — so we join them together on our side before your download starts. That means a progress bar and a wait of a minute or two rather than an instant link. Files are named after the video, quality is 360p for now, and a DRM-protected video tells you that's what happened instead of just failing.

Photos from X posts, and a choice of video quality
The Twitter video downloader now saves photos too, not just video. A post with only a picture in it used to come back as "no video found", which was true and useless — now you get a Download Photo button and the image at full size. Video posts also arrive with every quality the post actually has, so you can pick HD or a smaller file instead of taking whatever we were given. And a post that has been deleted now says so, straight away, instead of making you wait while we check three more times.

Your language in your file names
If a post's caption was in Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali or any other non-Latin script, the saved file lost it — the letters were stripped and only the punctuation between them survived, so a file could save as "savereels.online-!,-,-,-.jpg". Captions now keep their own script, so the file is named after the post in the language the post was written in. Titles that really are only emoji still fall back to a clean name.

Profile posts are downloadable again
Loading a public profile's recent posts through the Instagram photo downloader had stopped working entirely — one source served that grid and it had started refusing our server, with no backup behind it. There is a second source now, so the grid loads again. It also labels each item correctly: photos were being reported as videos, which made the wrong download button appear.

Clearer answers when a link cannot be saved
When a post is private, deleted, or simply has nothing in it to download, you are told which one it is. Before, all three came back as the same vague failure that suggested trying again — so people did, over and over, on links that could never work. A private post now says it is private on the first try, and it is remembered for a while, so a retry is answered instantly instead of spending half a minute re-checking.

Open and share your saved files, straight from the app
Every file in Your saves now has an Open button and a Share button. Open plays it in your usual player, which helps if your phone's gallery is slow to show new files, or doesn't show them at all. Share hands the file to whichever app you pick, so you can send a video on without going looking for it in a file manager first.

A link that can't be downloaded now says so immediately
If a video can't be fetched, because the post was deleted, the account is private, or there's simply nothing downloadable there, the app used to spend up to half a minute checking before telling you, and it started over on every retry. It now remembers the answer for a few minutes, so trying again is instant instead of another long wait. Links that can work are unaffected: those are still checked fresh every time.

Stories and Highlights fail far less often
Saving Instagram stories and Instagram highlights now falls back through three separate sources instead of one, so a single provider having a bad hour no longer stops you. And when something does go wrong you get a plain explanation of what to try next, instead of a raw technical error code.

Links that used to time out now finish
Some videos took long enough to check that the app gave up on them, even though it still had time left to keep trying. It now uses the time it actually has, so links that used to end in "couldn't be downloaded" go through normally. On the day after this shipped, the platform it affected most finished 98 out of every 100 links.

Pasting a sound or audio link now answers straight away
A link to a sound or audio page isn't a video, so there was nothing to download, but instead of saying so, the app spent half a minute trying and then failed. It now tells you immediately, and points you to the video you probably wanted instead.

Your saves list shows a picture for every item
Some rows in your saves list appeared with a blank space where the preview should be, which made a long list hard to read. Every saved item now shows its thumbnail.

Downloads pick up where they left off
If your connection drops partway through a video, saving in the app now continues from that point instead of starting over. On a patchy signal a long video used to be a gamble, because every retry began again from nothing. Now it costs you the few seconds you lost, not the whole file.

Your saves: everything you've downloaded, in one place
The app now keeps a list of what you've saved on this device: a thumbnail, the date, the size and where it went. Tap any of them to save it again, which helps when a file has been deleted, or when you want a second copy. The list lives on your phone and nothing about it leaves the device.

Large videos now cost half the data to save
Saving a large video used to download it twice, once inside the app and then again through Android's own download manager, which quietly doubled the mobile data it cost you. The app now hands the file over straight away, so it downloads once. Videos of every size save this way now and show up in your notification shade while you carry on browsing. If you're on an older version, update from Google Play to get it.

A second way to save a video if the first one fails
Every video now has an "Alternative download link" under the download button. It hands the same file to your browser's own downloader, which copes better with very large videos and can resume if the connection drops. If a download ever fails, the option is offered right there instead of leaving you stuck.

Large videos download reliably in the app
Big files now go through Android's own download manager instead of being held in the app, so long or high-quality videos no longer fail near the end. You can follow progress from your notification shade while you keep browsing. Update from Google Play to get it.

MP3 downloads no longer save an empty file
Converting a video to MP3 could produce a 0 KB file with no explanation. Audio extraction now reports the real problem instead of handing over an empty download, and if a video simply has no sound, it says so up front rather than failing at the end.

Fixed downloads that finished but never reached your gallery
Some videos downloaded all the way and then failed at the last step, showing "Download failed" even though the file had already arrived. The cause was a file-type mismatch we now correct before saving, so those videos land in your gallery normally. Nothing to update, because the fix is already live.

Some downloaders are now web-only
A few tools have moved to the website. If a downloader isn't available in the app, just open savereels.online in your phone's browser. The same fast, free, no-login download works there, and your files save the same way.

More reliable HD downloads, fewer failed saves
Downloads now recover automatically: if a video link expires or a source is briefly down, SaveReels retries in the background so you can still download Instagram reels, download TikTok videos without watermark, and download Facebook videos in HD, with no need to paste the link again. Fewer "download failed" moments across every platform.

After a download, the app now tells you exactly where the file was saved, so your saved Instagram reels, Instagram photos, and reel MP3s are easy to find right away.

When a link can't be downloaded (private account, deleted post), you now get a clear explanation instead of a confusing technical error, plus faster failure detection so you're not left waiting.

In the Android app you can now tap Share on an Instagram or Facebook post and pick SaveReels. The link is filled in and the download starts automatically, no copy-paste needed.
