How to download Instagram Stories
Stories are different from posts. They aren’t tied to a permanent link, so you download them by username instead. Type any public account’s username (or paste their profile URL) into the box above and press Download. SaveReels pulls that profile’s currently-active stories and shows each one so you can save the photos and videos you want in full HD.
It’s completely anonymous. You’re never logged in and never open the story through Instagram, so you don’t appear in the account’s viewer list, and the owner has no way to know you saved it.
Stories expire, so save them in time
Every Instagram story disappears 24 hours after it’s posted. Once it’s gone, there is nothing left to fetch. If you know you’ll want a moment later, whether a recipe, a workout, an announcement, or a memory, grab it while it’s still live. Highlights (stories a creator has pinned to their profile) stay available longer because the account holder chose to keep them.
What you can and can’t save
- Public accounts: all active story frames, photos and videos, in HD.
- Both formats: image stories download as photos, video stories as MP4.
- Private accounts: not accessible to anyone without following and logging in, so they can’t be downloaded here.
- “No active stories” simply means that account hasn’t posted in the last 24 hours.
Common questions about story downloads
People most often use a story downloader to keep their own stories (Instagram doesn’t always save the original quality to your camera roll), to archive a brand or creator they follow, or to view a public story without the owner seeing their name. All of that works from a public username, with no follow request, no login, and no trace.
Respect creators and privacy
Anonymous viewing and downloading is meant for public content and personal use. Don’t re-share someone’s private moments, and don’t use saved stories to harass or impersonate. Treat other people’s content the way you’d want yours treated, and follow Instagram’s Terms and local law.
More questions
Will the person know I viewed or saved their story?
No. Because you’re not logged in and never watch it inside Instagram, your name won’t show up in their story viewer list.
Can I download story highlights too?
Highlights are pinned stories that stay on a profile. Support for pulling a specific highlight is on the roadmap; active stories work today.
Why can’t I download a particular account’s stories?
The account is almost certainly private. Only public accounts’ stories are accessible without logging in.

Photos from X posts, and a choice of video quality
The Twitter video downloader now saves photos too, not just video. A post with only a picture in it used to come back as "no video found", which was true and useless — now you get a Download Photo button and the image at full size. Video posts also arrive with every quality the post actually has, so you can pick HD or a smaller file instead of taking whatever we were given. And a post that has been deleted now says so, straight away, instead of making you wait while we check three more times.
- Fix
Your language in your file names
If a post's caption was in Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali or any other non-Latin script, the saved file lost it — the letters were stripped and only the punctuation between them survived, so a file could save as "savereels.online-!,-,-,-.jpg". Captions now keep their own script, so the file is named after the post in the language the post was written in. Titles that really are only emoji still fall back to a clean name.
- Fix
Profile posts are downloadable again
Loading a public profile's recent posts through the Instagram photo downloader had stopped working entirely — one source served that grid and it had started refusing our server, with no backup behind it. There is a second source now, so the grid loads again. It also labels each item correctly: photos were being reported as videos, which made the wrong download button appear.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download someone's Instagram story?▼
Enter their public Instagram username (or profile link) above and press download. We fetch their currently-active stories so you can save each one in HD. The account must be public. Private accounts can't be accessed.
Is it anonymous, or will they know I viewed their story?▼
Yes, it's anonymous. You're not logged in and never view the story through Instagram, so it doesn't appear in their viewer list.
Why do I see 'no active stories'?▼
Instagram stories disappear 24 hours after posting. If a user hasn't posted in the last 24 hours, there's nothing to download right now.
Can I download stories from a private account?▼
No. Only public accounts' stories can be downloaded. Private content isn't accessible.
