How to download Instagram Reels and videos
SaveReels turns a public Instagram link into a downloadable HD file in a few seconds. Open the reel, post, or video you want inside the Instagram app or on the web, tap the three-dot menu, and choose “Copy link”. Paste that link into the box above and press Download. We fetch the original media straight from Instagram’s servers and hand you the highest-quality version available, usually 1080p MP4 for video and full-resolution JPG for photos.
You never sign in, install anything, or hand over a password. The tool works entirely from the public URL, so nothing touches your Instagram account. It runs the same way on an iPhone, an Android phone, a Windows PC, or a Mac. The download saves to your device’s normal Downloads or Photos location.
What you can save
- Reels: the short vertical videos, saved as MP4 with audio.
- Feed videos and IGTV/long-form clips in their original resolution.
- Single photos and every image in a multi-photo carousel post.
- The audio track on its own as an MP3, when you only want the sound.
Why quality matters (and how we keep it)
Screen recording a reel loses sharpness, drops frames, and captures your notifications. Downloading the source file keeps the creator’s original bitrate, so text stays crisp and motion stays smooth. When Instagram serves a higher-quality DASH stream, SaveReels merges the separate video and audio tracks server-side so you still get one clean file instead of a silent clip.
If a download isn’t working
- Make sure the account is public. Private profiles, close-friends stories, and login-gated posts can’t be fetched by anyone.
- Use a full post/reel link (instagram.com/reel/… or /p/…), not a profile or hashtag URL.
- If a link fails right after posting, wait 10–20 seconds and try again, because Instagram sometimes needs a moment to finish processing new uploads.
- Remove tracking junk after “?igsh=…” if you pasted a shared link and it misbehaves.
Is it legal and safe?
Downloading is intended for content you own, content shared under a permissive licence, or personal offline viewing of public posts. It is not a licence to re-upload someone else’s work or use it commercially. Please credit creators and respect Instagram’s Terms of Use and applicable copyright law. SaveReels keeps no copy of what you download and asks for no personal data.
More questions
Do downloaded reels have a watermark?
No. We fetch the original file Instagram stores, which has no SaveReels branding added. Any watermark the creator burned into the video themselves will remain, because that is part of the video.
Can I download on iPhone without an app?
Yes. Everything runs in your mobile browser. On iOS the file saves to Files or Photos depending on the type; on Android it goes to your Downloads folder.
Is there a limit on how many I can download?
There is a fair-use rate limit to keep the service fast for everyone, but normal personal use is never a problem.
What's new
View all updates- Improved
A link that can't be downloaded now says so immediately
If a video can't be fetched, because the post was deleted, the account is private, or there's simply nothing downloadable there, the app used to spend up to half a minute checking before telling you, and it started over on every retry. It now remembers the answer for a few minutes, so trying again is instant instead of another long wait. Links that can work are unaffected: those are still checked fresh every time.
- Improved
Stories and Highlights fail far less often
Saving Instagram stories and Instagram highlights now falls back through three separate sources instead of one, so a single provider having a bad hour no longer stops you. And when something does go wrong you get a plain explanation of what to try next, instead of a raw technical error code.
- Fix
Links that used to time out now finish
Some videos took long enough to check that the app gave up on them, even though it still had time left to keep trying. It now uses the time it actually has, so links that used to end in "couldn't be downloaded" go through normally. On the day after this shipped, the platform it affected most finished 98 out of every 100 links.
Frequently asked questions
What is IGTV, and does it still exist?▼
IGTV was Instagram's standalone long-form video feature, launched in 2018 and folded back into the main app in 2022. You can no longer post new IGTV content, but older /tv/ links from that era still resolve to their original video file.
How do I find the IGTV link for an old post?▼
If the original post is still live, open it on Instagram and use Share → Copy Link. Legacy IGTV posts keep their /tv/ URL format. Paste that link here.
Can long IGTV videos be downloaded in HD?▼
When HD streams are still available from the source, the downloader returns the best available quality. Some older uploads only expose a single resolution.
Why does some IGTV content fail to resolve?▼
IGTV media can fail if the post is private, deleted, restricted by region, or temporarily blocked by upstream provider changes.
Is signup required for IGTV downloads?▼
No signup is required on this site. Just paste a public link and download.
