How to download Instagram Stories
Stories are different from posts. They aren’t tied to a permanent link, so you download them by username instead. Type any public account’s username (or paste their profile URL) into the box above and press Download. SaveReels pulls that profile’s currently-active stories and shows each one so you can save the photos and videos you want in full HD.
It’s completely anonymous. You’re never logged in and never open the story through Instagram, so you don’t appear in the account’s viewer list, and the owner has no way to know you saved it.
Stories expire, so save them in time
Every Instagram story disappears 24 hours after it’s posted. Once it’s gone, there is nothing left to fetch. If you know you’ll want a moment later, whether a recipe, a workout, an announcement, or a memory, grab it while it’s still live. Highlights (stories a creator has pinned to their profile) stay available longer because the account holder chose to keep them.
What you can and can’t save
- Public accounts: all active story frames, photos and videos, in HD.
- Both formats: image stories download as photos, video stories as MP4.
- Private accounts: not accessible to anyone without following and logging in, so they can’t be downloaded here.
- “No active stories” simply means that account hasn’t posted in the last 24 hours.

People most often use a story downloader to keep their own stories (Instagram doesn’t always save the original quality to your camera roll), to archive a brand or creator they follow, or to view a public story without the owner seeing their name. All of that works from a public username, with no follow request, no login, and no trace.

Anonymous viewing and downloading is meant for public content and personal use. Don’t re-share someone’s private moments, and don’t use saved stories to harass or impersonate. Treat other people’s content the way you’d want yours treated, and follow Instagram’s Terms and local law.

Can I download story highlights too?
Highlights are pinned stories that stay on a profile. Support for pulling a specific highlight is on the roadmap; active stories work today.
Why can’t I download a particular account’s stories?
The account is almost certainly private. Only public accounts’ stories are accessible without logging in.

Threads posts with several photos now download
A Threads post containing more than one photo used to fail outright — nothing saved, and retrying didn't help. The Threads video downloader now saves every photo in a multi-photo post, and it can fall back to a second source when the first one can't read a link, so more posts work first time.

Most of the app's size was a copy of the website packed inside it that the app never opened — it loads the live site instead. That copy is gone, cutting the download to a fraction of what it was: faster to install, less mobile data to get started, and more room left on your phone. Nothing about how the app works has changed.

Can I watch Instagram stories anonymously?▼
Yes, for public accounts. Enter the username and their active stories load here. Instagram only records a viewer when the story is opened from a logged-in account, and you're never logged in.
Will they see that I viewed their story?▼
No. Your name cannot appear in their viewer list, because the story is never opened through Instagram under an account. Nothing is sent to them at any point.
Do I need an account or an app?▼
Neither. It runs in the browser, there's nothing to install and nothing to sign into. A username is the only thing you enter.
How long are stories available to watch?▼
24 hours, the same as on Instagram — after that the frames are gone for everyone. Highlights are the exception: those are saved by the account holder and stay up, and you can open them from the Highlights tab.
Can I save a story after watching it?▼
Yes. Each frame has its own download button underneath it, and photos and videos both save in the best quality available.
