YouTube Shorts Not Downloading? Work Through These Fixes
Most YouTube Shorts download errors are caused by one of five things. Check each one below.
✅ Fix 1 — Use the correct Shorts link
The URL must be youtube.com/shorts/ID or youtu.be/ID. Regular watch links (youtube.com/watch?v=) also work. Do not paste a YouTube homepage or search URL.
✅ Fix 2 — Check if the video is public
Unlisted and private YouTube videos cannot be downloaded. Open the link in an incognito window — if the video plays there, it is public and SaveReels should work.
✅ Fix 3 — Age-restricted content
Age-restricted YouTube videos require a logged-in account to view. SaveReels cannot access these without credentials, and we do not request them.
✅ Fix 4 — Try again in a moment
YouTube occasionally rate-limits third-party resolvers. If you see a timeout error, wait 30–60 seconds and try again. SaveReels uses multiple fallback resolvers to handle this automatically.
✅ Fix 5 — Switch format to MP3
If the MP4 download is failing but you only need the audio, select MP3 above and try again. The MP3 resolver uses a separate pathway.

Some YouTube Shorts use adaptive streaming, which separates video and audio. SaveReels automatically merges them when possible. If audio is missing, try downloading the MP3 separately using the MP3 option.
